I wish the human race could put
their petty shit aside long enough to realise that our current model, whatever
it may be, is NOT WORKING. I hate listening to the news these days as it only
upsets me. It doesn't even matter which part of the world it is coming from,
there is no "bright side" anymore.
We are slowly killing our planet and
everything in it and yet we continue on the same path. Abusing any and all
natural resources we can get our filthy hands on, killing endangered species
for sport, killing each other for no good reason other than petty disagreements
and on and on and on. Fuck, over 40% of Canadian adults are at a literacy level
below 3 on the International Adult Literacy scale. And we rank fifth out of
twenty-two countries! The US and UK are well behind us. So almost half the
adults in Canada cannot read well enough and can only deal with simple
material. What about the adults in the countries behind us? And we call ourselves
progressive.
Why do I care? Simply put, I have a
kid. My kid has to grow up and deal with all of the bullshit brought upon her
by the generations before her that refused to fucking do anything about it.
They chose to live selfishly and think only of themselves. Politicians are so
busy pandering to every special interest group out there instead of
looking at the bigger picture. Gay rights, women's rights, religious rights,
black rights, blue rights, wealthy rights, poor rights.... Aren't they
all human rights? Live and let live. The golden rule. If everybody lived by it;
religious, gay, straight, black, yellow, red, white, male, female, short, fat,
tall, skinny.... Wouldn't it solve 99% of the issues?
Sure I am an atheist that tends to think religion caters to the ignorant but if they aren't hurting anybody, who fucking cares? Not me. It's when their propaganda starts to affect the rest of us that it becomes a problem.
I don't care who the next leader is,
Republican or Democrat in the US, Liberal or Conservative in Canada, but
get it fucking right and start solving the issues instead of mindlessly
throwing money WE do not have at the problem. If we don't start changing now,
there will be nothing left for future generations.

I was in a adult workshop awhile ago. The teacher asked us each to take a turn reading a paragraph out loud to the rest of the class. Out of about ten of us seven struggled with this. I was stunned. Everyone in this workshop was born Canadian. Didn't realize till then it was such a huge problem.
ReplyDeleteMy kids are no longer in school, however I once complained to my daughters teacher that her written work was slop. I was told by my child's sixth grade teacher that neat penmanship and proper spelling was really unnecessary. Most of them won't need this skill because everything they do in the future will most likely be done on the computer......if they can't spell how the hell are they going to read??? Your thoughts?
My thoughts are this... That teacher better pull his/her head out of his/her ass and start teaching properly. You want a fucking raise? Do something to earn it. That is complete and utter bullshit. As long as there are pens and paper, there will be hand written letters, notes, books, etc.. What is wrong with people these days? Take some fucking pride in your handwriting, your spelling, your grammar! Learn the goddamn difference between there, their and they're; too, to and two. Know that irregardless and addicting ARE NOT WORDS! Figure out that an comes before a word that starts with a vowel. Periods, commas, colons, semi-colons; all have their place in a sentence or paragraph. Only when we grasp the basic concepts are we able to move on to abbreviations, anagrams and text speak.
