I must say it has been a good weekend.. Friends, family, sunshine. Much food was consumed, some potables drunk and chatter aplenty. There was music, bunnies, chocolate and dancing.
During my weekend travels I discovered two new places; Guilt and Co. and Township 7 Vineyards and Winery. Two completely different places, two completely different atmospheres.
I'll start with Guilt and Co. This place should be called Pretentious or Hipster Hell. If you like fedoras and sorry attempts at 80s fashion, this is your scene. I have never seen so many douchebags in suspenders gathered in one place. If it weren't for the solid band and good company, I would have hightailed it out of there in minutes. It's too bad because the service, bar and table, was stellar. They also have a killer meat and cheese platter...nom nom nom. The bathroom is unisex (no urinals) and there was never a line-up (awesome). Oh and there were boardgames to play as well (not in the bathrooms though).
The place could be super awesome if it weren't for the people. I felt surrounded by the extras from the party scene in "Uncle Buck". I'm thinking I'll try again another night of the week. I would imagine bedtime is pretty early for this set so a weekday may suffice. I am really hoping to be wrong about this place as the cheese was to die for and I want to get my hands on Jenga.
Next up... Township 7 Vineyards and Winery. Wow. Great setting and close to home! We went on Easter Sunday for an egg hunt without a child in tow. Needless to say, we did not get to participate in the egg hunt so we spread out our blanket, listened to cover tunes and indulged our tastebuds. We were also able to pet some bunnies as the folks from Small Animals Rescue Society were there to raise funds for their charity. I am hardly a wine connoisseur but I know what I like and I liked the Viognier. It was very light and refreshing; perfect for the day I think. The people were fantastic, the kids weren't obnoxious and everybody was there for the same reason; wine and chocolate. I will definitely be going back in the summer for their Wilde at the Winery event.
There were so many dinners to attend in various locations including my own home. There was lamb, turkey, chicken, ham, pork roast, sushi; a veritable smorgasbord of a weekend one might say. I think the highlight of the food parade was my friend Patriqua's Potatoes Romanov. To.Die.For. She also made some s'mores cupcakes that almost outshone the potatoes but not quite. I learned to like cooked cabbage again thanks to a certain Knowlden and went back for seconds.
It amazes me the simple things that make me happy and make my own personal world spin. Not a lot of money spent, not a lot of driving done but each day was special in itself. Each moment spent with people who entertain and delight and most importantly, make me laugh, was enough to make me feel content. Even the alone time in my bed, with my dog, put a smile on my face and warmth in my heart. It all just seemed to come together for four days to create a wonderful weekend devoid of the usual bullshit and panic and for that I am grateful...
Now if only these damn allergies would fuck off.
