Feminism? Pfft!

Could somebody please explain to me what a feminist is? I'm so confused... Oxford says:

Definition of feminist

noun

  • a person who supports feminism.

adjective

  • relating to or supporting feminism:feminist literature

Okay then, let's look up feminism. Oxford also says:

Definition of feminism

noun

[mass noun]
  • the advocacy of women’s rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.
The issue of rights for women first became prominent during the French and American revolutions in the late 18th century. In Britain it was not until the emergence of the suffragette movement in the late 19th century that there was significant political change. A ‘second wave’ of feminism arose in the 1960s, with an emphasis on unity and sisterhood; seminal figures included Betty Friedan and Germaine Greer.

So I'm all for equality between the sexes. Do I believe a woman can do anything a man can do? Yes. Do I believe men can do anything women can do? Of course. Both sexes can be pilots, chefs, nannies, cops, secretaries, nurses, doctors, porn stars, war heroes, war criminals, world leaders, parents, teachers...ANYTHING. The only time sex becomes an issue is in matters related to genitalia. Men will most likely never give birth and women will never, um, hmmmm...kinda stumped on this one. Anyway, point made, right?
Why do we have Women Only gyms, Women's Studies classes, Geek GIRL conventions, Ladies Nights at bars, and on and on and on? Why is this okay for us but when men do it, there is outrage, protests and media attention? Come on ladies....grow the fuck up. If it's equality you are looking for then you had best look around at what WE have done to segregate ourselves and earn our "unequal" treatment.

I grow tired of seeing stupid headlines like the following:
      http://www.salon.com/2013/05/24/no_women_allowed_summer_music_festivals_are_dudefests_again/singleton/
Gee ladies...maybe your music fucking sucks? Or could it be that people don't care about has-beens such as Joan Jett and Patti Smith? (Disclaimer... I love both of these ladies' music immensely but most festival goers have no fucking clue who these women are unless they see their t-shirts at Urban Outfitters)

Ladies, if you want to be treated as an equal, ACT LIKE ONE. Stop pissing and moaning about how poorly we are treated and portrayed in the media and do something about it. No more separate sporting events, special areas at the gym, special courses in schools, etc... I consider myself a TRUE feminist and I never complain about inequality. The media represents us exactly as we are; whiners and bitches. Maybe we should start working on that?

I am thinking about the men in my life and trying to draw comparisons and quite frankly, it's impossible. The only difference between me and the men I know is, you guessed it, genitalia. I don't look at my successful male friends and think, 'gee...they got to where they are solely because they have a penis' or 'they are are so much stronger than me because of that dangly thing on the front of their bodies.' If anything, my male friends inspire me. They inspire me to work harder, be stronger and most of all be myself. They are not trying to be things they aren't; each has their own strengths and each of them uses their strengths to their advantage. This is the problem with women, we look around at what everybody else has and think about the bad things they did to get it. Women blame everybody else, male and female, for the things they are unable to accomplish. You need only read or watch the news to know this.

Feminism should be about doing what is best for us, accomplishing the stuff we want to accomplish and doing it all with determination, tenacity and hard work. We have already earned all of the same rights as men so why are we still fighting them and blaming them for everything that isn't right? The men of the past are just that, men of THE PAST. We cannot continue to see men as the enemy when it was the generations before them that suppressed us. Of course there are still some out there that are backward thinking but don't forget, these types of women exist as well. In fact, I know a few and you know something, it's generally the backward-thinking women that are crying the most about inequality. Well honey... a few words of advice, put some shoes on, unlock the chain tying you to your oven and go on the pill. If you can't drag your sorry ass out of the house and away from your man, shut the fuck up and continue being miserable.

    1. Feminism seems sexist to me, and I don't think making it easier for uncoordinated pudgy pale men to "earn" hundreds of tax-free dollars per night as a stripper is the answer... although it would be equality. Ying/Yang, and two wrongs don't make a right!

    2. Hmmmm... It's Yin and Yang and I would totally stuff a toonie is his bellybutton if his music choices were acceptable.

Sadly, I already knew this. Thanks.
