I'm not racist but.... Are you fucking kidding me?
From Facebook earlier this evening:
CBG: I am not a racist person!! But OH MY FUCKING GOD if ur gonna work in a restaurant speak english and understand when i am screaming at u for being a complete moron!!! And the shittest flippin service ever!! Thanxs that will be all! Maybe
3 people like this.
BC: Was it a Sushi place??
CBG: Yup!!!
CBG: Dam chinks!!!
RC: I agree CBG if you are going to deal with the public in general you should have a firm grasp on the english language...it is so frustrating for everyone involved :) I hope that you feel a little better after venting lol!
JWR: Come out to Walmart in white rock they nothing and don't speak a word of english LOL So sad that they even get the job!!!
CBG: Un real!! I am soo sick of this shit!! But i screamed and yelled and made a scene big enough that we only paid a little bit of our bill!
RG: But you were in a Japanese restaurant
CBG: Oh yes i was but if they are gonna serve us english speaking people maybe they should learn to speak our language
DO: Don't forget they are our housekeeper in our hospitals. They don't understand yet are hired to clean the wards
CBG: Lol
OQA: Wow... You went to an authentic Japanese restaurant and are pissed that they don't speak proper English? I would sympathise if this was a Montannas or some redneck diner in Chilliwack but get real. It takes all sorts to make the world go 'round and white English isn't exactly perfect either. In fact, Caucasian people probably speak crappier English than those that have come to Canada and are trying to learn.
OQA: As for your comment DO, at least they are willing to do the jobs that lazy ass Caucasians aren't willing to do because they think it's beneath them. You don't need to know English to understand what clean is. I've been to some pretty disgusting white people houses.
CBG: Wow OQA(please note my name was spelled wrong here even though it states the correct spelling in every post I write as well as on my profile) thanks !!
CBG: Seems someone woke up grumpy!!
OQA: I'm not grumpy... but case in point above: "Come out to Walmart in white rock they nothing and don't speak a word of english LOL So sad that they even get the job!!!" Hmmm... she looks pretty damn white to me. And the word "chink" is pretty damn racist. The ignorance displayed in this thread amazes and sickens me at the same time. It's one thing to joke about and be silly but this went way too far. Don't hate on the enlightened..
OQA: Further..."Chink" is a racist term for Chinese, not Japanese.
CBG: Well delete delete delete!!! Sometimes people dont like what they read does not mean they are douces about!! Have a nice day!!
OQA: Nothing wrong with a healthy debate between intelligent people, right?
Let's play a game shall we? Can you spot all of the spelling mistakes and grammatical errors? Including mine? Please note that every poster is Caucasian and the only words changed or added are the ones bolded by me. We don't want people's names getting out, right? Can you imagine if the faces under the white hoods were revealed?
Shit like this pisses me off. What right do we have to criticise Canadian newcomers' English skills? Hmmm? We call it ESL for a reason. Considering "LOL" has become commonplace and people can't even use punctuation properly, why are we complaining and making racial slurs? Grow up and learn English before you start bitching about other people's mistakes. Fucking hypocrites...
***Normally at this point I would insert a funny picture but I am so angry I can't be bothered***

I'm in the middle on this one! I have my very own immigrant at home so I have a different outlook on this..
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't take an asian, south asian or whatnot to not speak English properly (or write it as you proved)
*HOWEVER* I do strongly believe that there should be a requirement of new Immigrants to be schooled to at least grade 10 in one of our official languages (Just to clarify these languages are actually English and French.. Though I feel as if French should change to Mandarin or Cantonese when I'm in Richmond LOL)
My mother *AND* father-in-law (and her parents) all immigrated from the Ukraine or Latvia (Russian speaking) and when they arrived in Canada and began to live as Canadians and eventually became Canadians they felt it was their duty as such to speak our language and live as we do.. not because of fear of rude remarks or anything of the sort.. But because they chose to be here, in Canada, an English/French speaking country. They weren't brought here by force.. they CHOSE to be here, in fact they paid good money to come here..
In fact.. now that her parents have immigrated here, and even though they are in their 70s, they too are attending English classes. I'm all about people keeping a grasp on their heritage.. but what if we don't keep a hold on ours? What if we stop fighting for our heritage to be present.. what then? I'm all for being a melting pot, but the stock still has to be Canadian.
Teresa... I completely agree with you, there should be some effort put into learning the languages of the country you live in. If anything, it makes it easier to communicate and assimilate.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lot of people do not understand is that people come here from other countries for a better life. They are leaving their home countries for a reason.. Heavy repression, high poverty rates and no freedom to speak are only a few. A lot of people feel as though they are coming here to be immersed into Canadian culture and that is most certainly not the case. They come here to escape and make an easier life for their children and themselves.
Who are we to know what education they do or do not have? They could be in the middle of taking English classes or even just beginning; we don't know unless we ask and really, do we ever bother to ask? No we don't. We just judge.
Further, nobody seems to have a bias toward Caucasian people that come from Europe; Germans, Italians, Russians, etc.. It's only the people that look different from us.
It's funny you mention Canadian heritage.. Our heritage lies with the Natives, yes? They were the first here; why are we not embracing their culture? Instead, we shove them onto reservations and hope the "problem" goes away. Hmmmmm....
It leads me to wonder what exactly our heritage and culture are?
