Things I've Learned....

...in 2013.

It's okay to walk away.
Poor service in a restaurant? Leave. Unhappy in a relationship? End it. Hate your job? Quit. Life is short, stop wasting time doing things that leave you unfulfilled and being around people that make you unhappy.

Stop making excuses.
If you don't want to do something or see someone, don't. Simple as that.

Eat and drink what you want.
If you want the chocolate brownie, have it. If you want a beer at 8:00am, drink it. Everything in moderation.

Walk.
Whether you are walking away from something, toward something or just walking your dog, get outside and move your legs. There is nothing more therapeutic.

You cannot change people.
Stop trying. It's better to accept people as they are; beliefs, world views, personality flaws. If you don't want people to try and change you, stop trying to change others. If you really cannot tolerate somebody, see my first point.

Laugh whenever you can.
I truly believe there is no inappropriate time for laughter. I use it to diffuse tricky situations, make others feel better and add personality to a boring room. People often comment that my laughter is contagious, yours can be too.

Quality or quantity when it comes to friendships.
If you befriend people that make you feel appreciated and good about yourself, you don't need 300 of them, you need only a few.

Don't be scared of the "L" word.
Make sure you tell the people you love that you love them. Say it every day because you never know when you won't be able to say it.

Be selfish and selfless.
Be selfless in helping other people when you can but be selfish in helping yourself. You will feel better about doing good deeds when you are rested and content.

Love your hair.
Or something else about your appearance. You will never be happy with everything but surely you can find at least one good thing?

Stop the drama.
Get your shit together, make decisions about your future and stop blaming others. You control your life, nobody else. The sooner you grow a spine, stand up straight and have an opinion, the sooner others will respect you and your good judgement.

"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." ~ Oscar Wilde
I'd rather be ridiculous, crazy and flawed than humdrum, sedate and perfect. Anybody that minds your imperfections doesn't matter and those that matter don't mind.

2013 was a fantastic year full of music, memories and friends and I wouldn't change a thing. I look forward to ringing the new year in with a bang and making it even better than the last.

Happy New Year!
