I danced my way out of...

....a speeding ticket! True story.

I was driving home from having my hair cut after a fairly good day, happy as a clam, singing and dancing in my car to Erasure's A Little Respect when I see a police car in my rear view, lights flashing. Fuck, right? Not so much... Here's how it went down:

Police guy approaches my car and I make no attempt to stop dancing and singing but I did turn the music down a tad. I roll down my window just as he arrives and smile my biggest, dorkiest grin while still bouncing around in my seat.

Policeman, "It looks like you're having fun in here."

Me, still bobbing head, "yes I am."

Policeman, attempting to look serious, "have you had anything to drink tonight?'

Me, now moving shoulders and head, "You'd think but no."

Policeman, barely hiding his smile, asks for my information. I hand it to him and am now starting to sing under my breath.

Policeman, "do you know how fast you were going?"

I have stopped singing by this time but am still tapping my foot and moving my head about, "I have no idea but it must have been under a hundred 'cause my hair wasn't really moving."

Policeman, rolling eyes but openly smiling, "you were going seventy-two. Do you know the speed limit on this street?"

I manage to squeak out "sixty?" while smiling/grimacing but still bouncing a wee bit.

He laughs and tells me something different. My response? "Oops. I wasn't thinking. Sorry."

Policeman, trying desperately not laugh, "You seem to be having a good night and I don't want to ruin it so I'm not going to give you a ticket. Pay more attention and slow down."

Me, squeaking some more, still dancing, "thank you soooo much. I really appreciate it. Thanks again."

Policeman, "you're welcome, drive safe and have a good night."

Me, "thanks again, really, thank you."

He nodded and walked away, shaking his head but I am positive he got in his car and laughed his ass off. If he didn't then he missed a perfect opportunity.

Go me! How many people do YOU know that could dance and sing their way out of a traffic ticket?
